Motorcycle rider dies after colliding with SUV in Portage

PORTAGE, MI - Police in Portage said a motorcycle and an SUV were involved in a deadly collision on Sunday afternoon.

According to details reported by MLive.com, the motorcyclist was riding a Suzuki sport motorcycle at a high rate of speed along Oakland Drive shortly before 1:23 p.m.  The bike then collided with a Toyota SUV that was making a left hand turn onto westbound Ridgefield Road.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 21-year-old man from Portage, died after being taken to an area hospital. The Toyota driver, a 77-year-old woman from Portage, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Oakland Drive was shut down between Haverhill Avenue and Romence Road for several hours for the accident investigation.
